Pharmaceutical Chemistry
This domain includes scientists working mainly in the field of drug discovery and development. Due to the relevance of Chinese herbal products used by many patients in Singapore, we have a particular interest on Natural Products and Traditional Chinese Medicine, both in terms of surveys of usage of Complementary and Alternative Medicine, as well as isolation of bioactive molecules from local medicinal plants. Our team of pharmaceutical scientists has also a strong focus on the synthesis and characterization of small molecules, bioactive peptides, and supramolecular platforms for the treatment of various pathological conditions, including inflammation, infectious diseases and cancer.
Among the most impactful discoveries, our scientists have:
- Designed and developed small molecules as lead compounds based on nature-inspired drug discovery
- Discovered bioactive compounds with novel modes of action
- Developed methods for adulterant screening for the quality control of botanical products & established useful insights into the efficacy and safety of medicinal plants
- Identified an antimalarial compound from a Chinese herb
- Developed new molecular design strategies to improve the properties and functions of bioactive molecules.
- Developed functional supramolecular systems to expand the chemical space of therapeutic molecules and enable new biomedical applications.
