Paul Gallagher took up his appointment as Professor (Practice Track) at NUS Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences in October 2018. Prof. Gallagher’s achievements at NUS include the redesign and roll-out of the integrated B. Pharm. (Hons.) programme, Master of Pharmacy (Clinical Pharmacy), and Common Curriculum for Healthcare Professionals (CCHPE). Prof. Gallagher works closely with the Singapore Pharmacy Council and the Chief Pharmacist Office (Ministry of Health) in the design, roll out and evaluation of a EPA-based pre-registration training programme.

Prof. Gallagher is leading as a PI on a multi-centre clinical trial which is evaluating clinical, humanistic, and economic outcomes of a pharmacist-centric collaborative care model and findings to date have been disseminated in high-impact journals. Prof. Gallagher is a research collaborator on a Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health funded research project which is evaluating the impact of the CCHPE.

Prof. Gallagher, a member of the Advisory Committee to FIP Academic Institutional Membership (2013-), was appointed foundation lead for the FIP-UNESCO UNIWIN Centre for Excellence Western Pacific Region (April 2024-April 2026) and in that role works for the transformation of pharmaceutical education across the region. Prof. Gallagher holds a Visiting Professorship for the RCSI University of Medicine and Health Sciences (Dublin, Ireland) (June 2023-July 2026) where he was previously the Head of the School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences (July 2010-July 2018). Prof. Gallagher is the Programme External Assessor for the Faculty of Pharmacy at the Universiti Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (AY2023/2024-AY2026/2027).

Prof. Gallagher is a graduate of Trinity College Dublin (Ireland) and University College London where he obtained his PhD and MBA post-graduate degrees respectively. In 2016, Utrecht University (Netherlands) and subsequently in 2019 the International Pharmaceutical Federation (FIP) recognised him for his contributions to academic pharmacy practice.

Paul established a pharmacy and medical centre de novo in Dublin city centre (1994). This involved providing community pharmacy services to a mixed population in collaboration with general medical practitioner colleagues. He also supervised the practice and research of pre-registration pharmacy graduates. These experiences prompted his return to academic pharmacy when he joined the nascent School of Pharmacy of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) becoming Associate Professor and Head of School within 5 years.
