Research Interests
Current treatment modalities remain to be optimized due to an insufficient understanding of disease etiology, variation in responses to existing therapeutic agents and drug-related problems from the use of concurrent drug therapies. It is thus my long term research goal to integrate my training in clinical pharmacy, molecular pharmacology and pharmacogenomics into a translational research platform that serves to optimize drug use through personalized medicine, medication therapy management and exploration of innovative drug regimens. In this regard, I’m interested in the following research areas:
Pharmacogenomics and clinical pharmacology
- Identifying genetic variants that influence drug response and toxicity
- Improving drug efficacy and safety of chemotherapeutic and psychoactive agents through therapeutic drug monitoring
Pharmacodynamics and molecular pharmacology
- Understanding of molecular mechanisms of novel and investigational anticancer agents
- Screening for effective combinations of anticancer drugs for both cancer treatment and metastasis reduction
Pharmacy practice research
- Characterization of the efficacy and toxicity profiles of currently used medicines with an emphasis on oncology and neuropsychiatric medications
- Understanding drug utilization through evaluating drug prescribing patterns in relation to current treatment guidelines and their influence on clinical outcomes
