Department representatives shine at the Singapore Pharmacy Congress
The annual Singapore Pharmacy Congress, organized by the Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore, took place on 5th and 6th October 2024. This year, numerous colleagues and students from our department participated enthusiastically in the programme, taking on various roles that showcased our commitment to the field.
Before the congress, on 28th September, Dr Chng Hui Ting and fellow alumni pharmacists who are experts in therapeutic drug monitoring conducted a workshop titled “Pharmacokinetic Recharge – Upskilling for Peak Performance” The workshop design and preparation was also advised by Professor Eric Chan. The engaging session focused on essential pharmacokinetic concepts, including drug clearance, volume of distribution, and bioavailability which was applied to therapeutic drug monitoring case studies.
At the congress, Pharmacy’s very own music band comprising Goh En Qi (Year 4 Pharmacy), Bernice Leow (Class of ‘18), Eliot You (Year 3 Pharmacy), Geoffrey Ang (Year 2 Pharmacy), Tan Yong Qiang (Class of ‘09 and ‘18) and Liew Yi Zhe (Year 4 Pharmacy) performed at the opening ceremony.
We are also proud to have several faculty representatives in the programme lineup, which included Professor Giorgia Pastorin, A/Prof Priscilla How, A/Prof Yau Wai Ping, A/Prof Doreen Tan, A/Prof Matthias Wacker, Dr Yap Kai Zhen, Dr Wang Aiwen and Dr Wong Pei Shieen, who participated as speakers and moderators of various sessions. Additionally, A/Prof Priscilla How and Dr Lisa Brennan oversaw an informative booth to share about our Master of Pharmacy (Clinical Pharmacy) and Doctor of Pharmacy programmes, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning in our profession. Professor Paul Gallagher and Dr Ong Pei Shi contributed as members of the abstract committee.
Our Year 4 pharmacy students made their mark as well, presenting their Student-led Collaborative Innovative Pharmacy Inquiry (SCI-PhI) projects in both oral and poster competitions. Special congratulations to Darren Lim for winning Best Oral Presentation and Lam Weng Chung for securing Best Poster Presentation in the “Pharmaceutical Sciences, Industrial Practices, and Regulatory Affairs” category!
Overall, the congress was a memorable gathering of pharmacy and healthcare professionals. It provided a wonderful opportunity to reconnect with our alumni and engage with the broader pharmacy community. Kudos to the organizing team and well done to everyone involved!
