Extending Care Amidst The Pandemic

NUS was awarded the North West School Partners Award (SPA) 2022 for her active participation in the North West community in 2021. North West Community Development Council recognised Know Your Medicines, Get It Right! @ North West organised by the NUS Pharmaceutical Society (NUSPS) 19th Essential Medicines (EMed) Committee as a key programme contributing to this award.

Amongst other events, the NUSPS EMed Committee organises Know Your Medicines, Get It Right! (KYMGIR) to meet the needs of the community and provide an opportunity for Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Science students to volunteer while developing the essential communication skills required when working in a community-based care setting. A long-standing flagship event organised by NUSPS EMed, the NUSPS 19th EMed Committee revamped KYMGIR to a virtual event (eKYMGIR) held over Zoom in 2021 owing to the spike in unlinked community cases with more transmissible variants of COVID-19 in Singapore at the time. eKYMGIR promoted healthy aging of the elderly attendees through the distribution of FIT kits, and provided resources to the seniors to help them tide through COVID-19, and served as a platform to answer any queries they had about the fluid, ever-changing situation. Following in the NUSPS 19th EMed Committee’s footsteps, the 20th EMed Committee continues to organise both virtual and physical KYMGIRs and other events, so keep a lookout for their programmes! It is an honour to receive the North West School Partners Award (SPA) 2022 on behalf of NUS in recognition of our ongoing efforts to give back to the community.
