New faculty members for the new Academic Year

The Department has ramped up our recruitment efforts in the past few years to keep up with the everchanging landscape. We are pleased to introduce 6 new faculty members who have come onboard the Department in the past quarter.

Meet A/Prof Wu Wei,

Dr Wu Wei joins the Department as an Associate Professor. She completed her undergraduate and Ph.D. studies both in NUS, before moving to Europe for postdoctoral training in cancer biology and mass spectrometry. This led her to set up her own research group, first in the Netherlands, and now in Singapore at A*STAR SIgN, to specialise in immuno-oncology and novel strategies in therapeutic vaccination.

Another new Assistant Professor, Dr Liu completed his undergraduate degree in Biophysics from Illinois Wesleyan University, his M.S. in statistics and Ph.D. in bioinformatics from Stanford University. He conducted research at the intersection between AI and genomics at Baidu Research before joining the department. He has expertise in genomics and machine learning. Students interested in doing research in these areas are encouraged to contact him at boxiangliu@nus.edu.sg.

Dr Benetti, a new lecturer, completed his undergraduate studies in Pharmaceutical chemistry and Technology in Parma (Italy) and he acquired a Ph.D. in Biopharmaceutics from Parma University and UiTM (Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia) before starting to work as a pharmacokinetics scientist in Chiesi Farmaceutici (Parma). Some of his research expertise are formulation development and bioanalysis.

Meet Dr Dun Jiangnan,

Dr Dun joins the Department as a Lecturer. He obtained the B.S. in Pharmacy from Peking University, China. After that, he obtained the M.S. in Chemistry from New York University and Ph.D. in Pharmaceutics from University of Minnesota in the U.S.A.  He worked as a postdoctoral fellow at F. Hoffmann-La Roche AG before joining NUS. His research is focused on the manufacturing sciences of solid oral dosage forms, with emphasis on 1) Design of robust formulations based on physicochemical, mechanical and flow properties of drug, excipients, and their interactions in a powder mixture. 2) Computer-aided next generation material properties visualizations.

Fresh off her Swiss post doc, Dr Hong joins NUS as a lecturer. Her undergraduate and Ph.D. were completed in Monash University, Australia, while her post doc was at the University of Fribourg, Switzerland. Her research interests include food and formulation science, using scattering techniques to characterize the physicochemical behaviour.

Meet Dr Calum MacBeath,

Dr MacBeath is an Adjunct Senior Lecturer. He is currently the Director of Formulation Technologies at the Institute of Sustainability for Chemicals, Energy and Environment in A*STAR, which develops technologies for the Pharmaceuticals and Specialty Chemicals industries. Prior to joining A*STAR, Dr MacBeath was a Principal Scientist in Procter & Gamble.
