Explain My Research: Drug Delivery & Precision Medicine

27 and 28 May 2020

During the circuit breaker period, the Pharmaceutical Innovation and Research Centre under the Department, together with NUS Enterprise and the Faculty of Science, put together the virtual conference “Explain My Research: Drug Delivery & Precision Medicine” which attracted more than 650 participants from 48 countries representing over 400 different organizations. With a rising number of COVID-19 cases globally, many researchers were ‘grounded’ in the home office and were not able to attend conferences or workshops. Seizing this opportunity, the virtual event, organized by A/Prof. Matthias G. Wacker gathered a line-up of 15 international speakers to discuss recent research on nanotechnology, targeted drug delivery, artificial intelligence, and precision medicine. It provided a terrific opportunity to researchers from academia and the pharmaceutical industry to experience science from home and culminated in a live panel discussion chaired by A/Prof Wacker and A/Prof Giorgia Pastorin from NUS Pharmacy. The co-chairs, Ms Melissa Ho and Dr Dirk Beilke, represented the two main sponsors of the event, Malvern Panalytical and Pharma Test Apparatebau AG. The invited speakers included Prof Benjamin Boyd (Monash University, Australia), Dr Tivadar Feczkó (Hungarian Academy of Science, Hungary), Prof Gerrit Borchard (University of Geneva, Switzerland),  Dr Fabian Jung (Fraunhofer IME, Germany), Prof Marcos Luciano Bruschi (State University of Maringá, Brazil), Prof Gert Fricker (University of Heidelberg, Germany), Prof Bruno Sarmento (University of Porto, Portugal), Dr Goh Wei Jiang (NUS Pharmacy Class of ‘12 and Co-Founder, Craft Health, Singapore), Prof Dean Ho (NUS Engineering), Prof Vandana Patravale (Institute of Chemical Technology, India), Dr Alex van Herk (A*STAR, Singapore) and Dr Michael Caves (Malvern Panalytical, UK).
