Being the first contact point with incoming freshmen, the annual Freshmen Orientation Programme (FOP) is an important milestone event organized by the NUS Pharmaceutical Society (NUSPS). Through this, a sense of identity and belonging to the Pharmacy profession and NUS Pharmacy can be built as freshmen get to meet their seniors, professors, and pharmacists in the workforce. One of the highlights of past camps includes the important and meaningful undertaking of the Pharmacist’s Pledge led by different representatives of the profession such as Asst Prof Lita Chew (Chief Pharmacist, Ministry of Health) and Ms Ng Hong Yen (Past President, Pharmaceutical Society of Singapore), amongst others. This significant event officially marks the start of every students’ pharmacist journey and their devotion towards the healthcare of others.

This year’s rendition of FOP will be filled with fun and action-packed activities that will integrate the freshmen together into the Pharmily. Freshmen Orientation Camp (25-28 June 2018) is a social camp to help freshmen make friends with their peers and seniors. On the other hand, Freshmen Orientation Week (5-8 August 2018) aims to prepare freshmen for the upcoming semester as they get to know more about the pharmacy curriculum through seniors and professors. Students also engage in Rag and Flag, which provides opportunities for NUS students to give back to the community by heading to different parts of Singapore to flag for donations and eventually, put up a performance in NUS to show appreciation for the public’s generosity. FOP will then conclude with Bash on 14 August 2018, a celebratory night where the department will get together to commence the start of the academic year.

The theme for this year’s orientation is titled Audentia, which translates as “boldness” in Latin. Audentia represents the spirit of boldness and courage that is envisioned for all freshmen to take on as they embark on this journey together as a cohort. Doing some time traveling, freshmen would be exposed to scientists or pharmacists who have made great contributions to the fields of pharmacy or biomedical sciences.
