Know Your Medicines, Get It Right! @ North West

On the 26th of February 2023, the NUS Pharmaceutical Society’s (NUSPS) Essential Medicines Committee held its flagship event, Know Your Medicines, Get It Right! @ North West (KYMGIR) in conjunction with the North West Community Development Council and the Woodgrove Active Ageing Committee. The event aimed to provide medication review services and healthy living information for the elderly participants, as well as an opportunity for the student volunteers to develop empathy and practice communication skills in the process. The event was a resounding success, with all the goodie bags given out to over 100 elderly participants.

Medication Review

During the carnival style event, the elderly participants were free to explore the plethora of booths present at 888 Plaza Atrium from 10 am to 1 pm. Besides receiving advice from pharmacist on their mediation-related questions from the individual consultation at the medication review booths, participants were also enriched with knowledge about common health ailments at the educational games booth managed by the Pharmacy Profession Awareness Committee. In addition, participants had their blood pressure checked at the stations manned by the student volunteers.

Interesting booths sponsored by other organisations were also present. For example, the booth by Infocomm Media Development Authority, and the Health Promotion Board were immensely helpful in teaching the elderly participants on how to use health technology applications, such as HealthHub and Healthy 365. There was also a booth by Anlene to give out refreshments to the elderly participants.

Lastly, the Essential Medicines Committee would like to extend our heartfelt gratitude to all volunteers, participants as well as the sponsors and Marketing Committee of NUSPS in making the 2023 instalment of Know Your Medicines, Get It Right! @ North West (KYMGIR) a success. It was truly heartwarming to see the great turnout on a Sunday morning. We would also like to thank the Marketing Committee of NUSPS for their assistance in helping us source for sponsors for our event! We sincerely hope that everyone who participated found the event to be fruitful and enjoyed themselves in the process. We look forward to everyone’s continued support in joining us for our future events!
