Strengthening Academic-Industry Links and Regional Partnerships

From October 2025 to January 2026, the Department advanced its postgraduate outreach across China, Malaysia, and Thailand to connect with industry leaders, current students, and alumni. Each stop strengthened regional partnerships, deepened academia–industry links, and opened doors for collaboration, exchanges, and future-ready training.

The team visited Asymchem in Shanghai, a global leader in biopharmaceutical development and manufacturing known for integrated solutions from early-stage R&D to large-scale production. Discussions focused on emerging technologies and industry trends, while mapping tangible avenues for student internships, graduate roles, joint research, and knowledge exchange, directly aligned with our mission to prepare industry-ready professionals.

A big thank you to the Asymchem team for their warm hospitality and inspiring discussions.

In another visit to China, the Department engaged enthusiastic undergraduates from universities across Anhui, Jiangsu, Guangdong, Hunan, Sichuan, and Hong Kong in a panel discussion with our alumni who shared practical insights on choosing programmes, developing skills, and navigating early careers. Their experiences helped students visualise their next steps and connect aspirations with actionable pathways. In addition, we are grateful to be hosted by Prof Chow and Dr Cheng from the Department of Pharmacology and Pharmacy, The University of Hong Kong (HKU) for us to introduce our postgraduate programmes to HKU’s pharmacy undergraduate students. The session fostered lively discussion, strengthened academic ties, and surfaced interest in future collaborations and student mobility.

With a shared purpose, A/Prof Gigi Chiu continued regional engagement with the Faculty of Science (FoS) team, led by Assistant Dean Prof Zhao Yu, to the Universiti of Malaya and to Kasetsart University, Chulalongkorn University, and Mahidol University in Thailand. The delegation showcased FoS postgraduate opportunities, including PhD research tracks and graduate coursework programmes such as the Master of Science in Pharmaceutical Science and Technology. Faculty and students engaged in productive dialogues on research collaboration, academic exchange, and future partnership opportunities, reinforcing strong academic ties across the region.

Together, these engagements reaffirm our commitment to developing the next generation of pharmaceutical talent through rigorous training, meaningful mentorship, and strong industry and regional partnerships. We extend our sincere thanks to our hosts, partners, students, and alumni for their warm support and impactful contributions. We look forward to deepening these collaborations to advance scientific excellence and create new opportunities for our community.
