A 120th Year Homecoming with Pharmily Across Generations

The year-long celebration of the Department’s 120th anniversary in 2025 culminated with the 120th Pharmily Homecoming Carnival held on 13 December 2025 at the NUS Central Library. The carnival brought together almost 300 alumni, staff, students, family and friends in a joyful celebration of heritage, creativity, and unity, and raised more than $62,000 of donations for the Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences Bursary.

Deepest appreciation to our distinguished guests for celebrating with us

The carnival was truly a celebration by the Pharmily community, for the Pharmily community where all activities were planned and led by our very own staff, students and alumni. From guzheng and acoustic band performances of original compositions to caricature-drawing, jagua tattoos, Tahitian Dance and more, the day’s programme beautifully showcased the diverse talents and creative sides of our students and alumni beyond their pharmacy profession.

The programme kicked off in the morning with a nostalgic 1.2 km Heritage Walk from the Pharmacy Practice Skills Hub at Faculty of Science to the Central Library. Attendees viewed curated collections of old photographs, historic apparatus, and pharmacopoeias, reminiscing fondly about their university days amid the familiar environment. At Central Library, Professor Giorgia Pastorin, Head of Department, and Assciate Professor Ho Han Kiat, Dean of Students, greeted the crowd, followed by a symbolic cake-cutting ceremony to mark the milestone. Attendees enjoyed carnival food and games at the Forum, while listening to beautiful vocals and guitars by two different acoustic bands comprising students, alumni and friends – Cats Under the Engine and ACE & The Inhibitors.

The high energy continued inside Central Library Level 4, where carnival-goers got to participate in a variety of booths featuring fun games and hands-on craft activities. Cheers were shared when prizes were won from the crowd favourite – the claw machine. To revisit Singapore’s pharmacy education history, attendees were taken on a journey through time via a visual exhibition showcasing old textbooks, hardcopy and scanned copies of treasured editions of Pharmaceutica from 1966 to-date, and snapshots of vibrant student life from years past. To further bring our story to life, a short film produced in-house by our own staff, students and alumni titled “Passion, Pride and Purpose Through the Generations” was screened at the 360imx, cylindrical room, to provide an immersive experience for viewers.

United in celebration and purpose, the carnival was a beautiful meeting of memory and momentum. The event is a testimony that the true strength of NUS Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences lies not only in its academic excellence, but also in the generosity, compassion, and camaraderie of its people.

A huge thank you to our donors as well as sponsors – Blackmores Singapore; Guardian Health & Beauty; National University Health System (NUHS) institutions: Alexandra Hospital, Ng Teng Fong General Hospital and Jurong Community Hospital, Tengah General and Community Hospital, National University Hospital, NUHS Pharmacy; SingHealth Group; NHG Health; Unity Pharmacy, and alumni from the Class of 2002, 1995 and 1996, for their strong support and presence at the carnival. We would also like to thank NUS Libraries for the collaboration in making this celebration possible.

Last but not least, we thank every generation who came home to make this celebration what it was – rooted in heritage, rich in connection, and moving forward together. We look forward to shaping the future of pharmacy and pharmaceutical science education, research, practice and innovation with everyone for the next 120 years and more to come!
