Pharm.D. seminars – hear what alumni have to say

The Department has always placed importance in helping our alumni keep abreast with the latest issues and developments in the various fields of pharmacy and pharmaceutical sciences through organizing workshops and programs.

Last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all of our seminars had to be held online, including the Pharm.D. seminars. These seminars are conducted as part of the Pharm.D. program, where students present their evaluation of the evidence available and discuss their findings on pertinent pharmacy practice-related topics.

As part of the 115th anniversary celebrations, a new initiative of opening up the Pharm.D. seminars to alumni was launched from September to November last year. The idea turned out to be synergistic as it provided the opportunity for alumni to contribute to the learning of our Pharm.D. students by asking good questions and discussing practice-related points, and at the same time, continue their own professional learning. Many of our alumni attendees found the seminars beneficial as it was related to their work or study, and it enhanced their knowledge of the respective topics. The session also provided them with opportunities to interact with the speaker through mini quizzes during the seminar and discuss issues applicable to pharmacy practice.

Hear what some of our alumni attendees have to say:

“I signed-up and attended the seminars because the topics were interesting and relevant to my work. I got to see the clinical perspective on how drugs are utilised in practice (as I do not work in a practice-related field).”

“I would like to commend the Pharm.D. students for the hard work they put in for making the seminar very educational and engaging. I have learnt a lot from the seminars as it was concise and up to date with current practices. I liked the use of mini quizzes embedded in the seminar sharing to check for understanding and also to immediately apply what we have listened. The questions posed by the faculty was also relevant and thought provoking and gave deep insights on the current clinical practices. Overall, I look forward to the Pharm.D. seminars and I sincerely hope that this seminar will be continued.”

“There was very fruitful post-seminar discussion by the multi-disciplinary members of the audience (which is probably contributed by the PG students and alumni) and the faculty, which allowed us to see the topic outside of the box.”

“The seminars were informative and provides updates on latest clinical practice/new drug therapy/disease management in local and global setting. The speakers provided good summary to relevant literatures. I find the sessions a good avenue for discussion between those in practice and academic. The online format is helpful as it allows one to join in conveniently and efficiently”

We thank our alumni for their overwhelming support for this initiative. Seeing how it has benefited many, this semester, we have also opened up the Pharm.D. debate sessions for alumni to attend. We hope to continue to support your continuing education where possible, and look forward to your participation and fruitful discussion in the upcoming sessions.
