Research Highlights

The collaborative article by Professor Eric Chan and his PhD student and research staff, Daniel Ng and Wei Liang, is published by the Nature Synthesis journal. This paper titled ‘Photocatalytic coupling of unprotected sugars and N-heteroarenes’, show that native sugars can be directly merged with N-heteroarenes via redox-active thioglycosyl radical precursors using photocatalysis. 

The work is significant as it generates novel scaffold to develop drug candidates that can potentially target sugar metabolizing enzymes and transporters.
