A/Prof Victor Yu and his team discovered that a protein, known as MOAP-1, plays a crucial role in facilitating autophagy, a cellular “self-eating” process that recycles non-essential components during starvation.

Congratulations to Assistant Professor Brandon Morinaka and his team, whose article entitled “Genome-Mining-Based Discovery of the Cyclic Peptide Tolypamide and TolF, a Ser/Thr Forward O-Prenyltransferase” is published in Angewandte Chemie International Edition online on Feb 2021.

Professor Eric Chan is featured on The Straits Times for his research on the metabolism of synthetic cannabinoids, also known as new psychoactive substances (NPS) and the identification of its metabolites, which are taken as biomarkers to detect drug consumption. This research has resulted in a new way to detect illicit drugs in urine samples and it is currently being used by the Health Sciences Authority.

Dr October Sessions was featured for his pathogen research “Bringing full viral genome sequencing to a hospital near you” in the latest issue of “Advances in Science” publication by NUS, Faculty of Science.
