Biography
Professor Eric Chan is a pharmaceutical scientist and pharmacist in the Department of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences, National University of Singapore (NUS) (2006-current). His research interests are (1) physiologically-based pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PBPK-PD) modeling of pharmacology and toxicology, (2) xenobiotic-derived reactive metabolite research with specific focus on interaction with biological proteins and (3) metabolism-driven systems biology modeling of pathology, pharmacology, toxicology and mammalian host-bacteria interactions.
Professor Chan is currently Deputy Head (Research) (2024-current) and a member of the Faculty Promotion and Tenure Committee (FPTC) (2024-current). He is an expert consultant at the Hyloris Pharmaceuticals (2024-current) and the Agency for Science, Technology and Research (A*STAR) Experimental Drug Development Centre (EDDC) (2022-current), a member of the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) Novel Food Safety Expert Working Group (2021-current), and an affiliate member of the National University Cancer Institute, Singapore (NCIS) (2018-current). He is a registered pharmacist under the Singapore Pharmacy Council, Ministry of Health (2001 to current).
Professor Chan is the Executive Editor of the British Journal of Clinical Pharmacology (2023-current). He is also an editorial advisory board member of the Biochemical Pharmacology (Elsevier, 2018-current), Drug Metabolism and Disposition (American Society of Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics (ASPET), 2019-current) and Journal of Chromatography B (Elsevier, 2008-current). He is a grant review board member for the Health and Medical Research Fund (HMRF) in Hong Kong (2013-current). He is an active member of the ASPET and International Society for the Study of Xenobiotics (ISSX).
Professor Chan was previously the Chair of Department Graduate Committee (2018-2022), Chair of the Department Safety Committee (2008-2011), Assistant Dean (Undergraduate Programmes, 2011-2013), Vice Dean (Undergraduate Studies and Student Life, 2013-2014), member of the FPTC (2016-2018) and Faculty Teaching Excellence Committee (FTEC) (2023-2024). He also served previously as the editorial board member for the Journal of Proteome Research (American Chemical Society, 2013-2016), Rapid Communications in Mass Spectrometry (Wiley, 2006-2016) and Asian Journal of the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (NUS Centre for Development of Teaching and Learning, 2018-2022), Council Member of the ISSX (2019-2020), Scientific Affairs Committee Member of the ISSX (2016-2020), adjunct principal investigator at the Singapore Institute for Clinical Sciences (SICS) (2016-2020) and platform lead under the Innovations in Food and Chemical Safety (IFCS) Programme at the A*STAR (2018-2020).
Professor Chan was awarded the Dean’s Chair Professorship in the Faculty of Science (2015-2018). He was six times a recipient of the Faculty of Science Teaching Excellence Award and four times the NUS Annual Teaching Excellence Award. He also received the Faculty of Science Young Scientist Award (2010) and Outstanding Scientist Award (2014). He was awarded the NUS Overseas Attachment Programme (OAP) and the National Medical Research Council (NMRC) research training fellowships at the Imperial College London (2008) and University of Washington (2012), respectively.
