Short courses for healthcare professionals
The Department conducted two short courses in the past two months to upskill healthcare professionals.
Striving for pharmacists to be immunisers
The Department is a licensed partner of the American Pharmacists Association (APhA) to conduct the Pharmacy-based Immunization Delivery Certificate Training Program in Singapore. The 4th course run was held on 24th March and we are proud that 17 pharmacists had completed the course successfully. The participants were made up of pharmacists from community and healthcare institutions.
As part of the programme, participants had to complete 12 hours of home study followed by a full day live seminar where they were assessed on their injection techniques at the end and take an online final assessment afterwards. The contents covered aims to educate, prepare and direct pharmacists to provide immunisation services to patients as well as logistical and legal concerns regarding the service in Singapore.

We are heartened that the course helped these pharmacists build up confidence in administering vaccines in the future and we certainly look forward to see more vaccination service offered by pharmacists.

Managing cardiometabolic diseases as a whole
In understanding that cardiometabolic diseases rarely exist in isolation, the Department introduced the inaugural Cardiometabolic, Renal & dIabetes Optimisation Unified Services (C-RIOUS) Workshop this year. This is a revamp of the Foundation of Clinical Diabetes Management Programme which was conducted in the past. While it is also delivered by a team of clinicians, this all-in-one workshop offers a new component of clinical shadowing rotations. It seeks to provide a broad understanding of cardiometabolic diseases collectively and provide practical tips for management.
It was an intimate session with 10 budding pharmacists over the 3-day course held on 17-19 April. It comprises 2-day workshop with endocrinologist, nephrologist, dietitian, physiotherapist, ophthalmologist, podiatrist, and cardiology specialist pharmacist and 1-day clinical shadowing with nephrologists, dietitian, podiatrist and transplant pharmacists.
