The IPSF APPS symposium returns to Singapore!

Motivations and International Outlook

Headed by four student leaders from the NUS Pharmaceutical Society (NUSPS) – Teh Kee Siang (Class of ‘21), Tan Su Min, Jabelle (Class of ‘21), Myat Thu Kyaw (Class of ’21), and Goh Xuan Ying Alicia (Class of ’22), this iteration of the regional symposium – better known as the Asia Pacific Pharmaceutical Symposium: APPS 2020 will feature how millennial pharmacists may envision their potential to be fulfilled when they graduate into the new millennium with unique challenges and opportunities.

When asked about their motivation to host APPS in Singapore, all three chairpersons and the vice-chairperson agreed that they wanted to empower and enrich their fellow friends from NUSPS and the Asia Pacific region through powerful and impactful education programmes and enjoy the international exposure and network that APPS will bring to Singapore and NUSPS. Following the footsteps taken by their seniors from NUSPS back in 2001 when NUSPS hosted the first-ever APPS, these four student leaders envision to create a legendary symposium that will ignite the spirit of international exchange, out-of-classroom learning, and drive regional networks.

The APPS

To the unfamiliar, APPS brings together over 400 future pharmacists and pharmaceutical scientists from around the Asia Pacific region to learn, develop competencies and take concrete actions through a series of impactful educational and capacity building programmes, meaningful community and public engagement, problem-solving opportunities, and impressive social programmes for networking and international exchange.

What to Expect?

With the theme, APPS 2020: Envisioning our Potential as Millennial Pharmacists, the planned series of symposia will explore prominent, current and pressing issues of antimicrobial resistance, chronic illnesses, mental health and delve into the potential solutions that are made possible by the development of technologies and data. Exciting parallel programmes such as the Health Innovation Challenge, Pharmacy and Health Convention, Hackathon, Public Health Campaign, Diabetic Retinopathy Simulation, Social Nights and related educational and cultural workshops will also be part of APPS 2020.

It is essentially a week-long symposium with educational programmes coupled with social programmes that will be perfect for networking. APPS is open to sign-ups from current students and alumni of NUSPS.
